Offline address book not updating
In addition to this there a a few methods by which your Outlook clients get the offline address book. Outlook 2003 (and older)* clients get their OAB from a public folder, Outlook 2007 (and newer) clients can get their OAB from ‘Web-based distribution’ (basically form the website on the Exchange (or Exchange CAS) server.
So there are three factors stopping you seeing that new user on the GAL (, however if that’s not an option, read on). Force your Outlook Client to Download the Offline Address book. Check that the OAB is getting distributed from the Exchange/CAS server. Note: Make sure the Generation Server is set to a server that exists, and it’s online.
The offline address book is a snapshot of information from the Global Address List (GAL).
Therefore, not all the information in the GAL is available in the offline address book.
Also in the properties of the mailbox database, your users are using, make sure it points to the correct public folder database.
For web-based distribution make sure the site is up.
Support for Outlook 2000 was dropped with Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010 only supports Outlook 2003 (post SP2). In the diagram below you can see this server is performing public folder AND web based distribution, this is probably because you ticked this box when you installed the product.
If Outlook is left running constantly in Cached Exchange Mode, it automatically updates the offline address book about one time per day depending on updates on the computer that is running Exchange.
Basically, this error is happening because Outlook 2007 and higher clients rely on web based distribution of the offline address book, and that address book is not found on the CAS Server.
The fix is to enable the Default Offline Address book on the mailbox server for Web-based distribution: This setting does not go into effect immediately.
The offline address book size can vary from several megabytes to hundreds of megabytes in uncompressed form.
On our companies Exchange 2010 server, the most recently created mailboxes do not show up in the offline address book.If you are in Cached Exchange Mode and your connection status is Disconnected, Trying to Connect, or Offline, you can see only the information that is in the offline address book.
